From Teen Entrepreneur to Licensed CPA & IRS Enrolled Agent
It all started in 1997. Gary Mehta was a sophomore in high school. While an average classroom student, he had a natural gift for understanding small business mechanics. Blessed by an exceptional accounting teacher who ignited his passion for finance, Gary launched his first entrepreneurial venture. By the time he graduated high school, with his parents' support, he owned and operated three retail cellphone locations.
In 2002, Gary sold his retail stores and reinvested the capital into funding his higher education in accounting and finance. During his studies, he collaborated with a private investment fund specializing in commercial retail rollouts along the eastern seaboard. Applying his practical operational experience, he helped the fund launch and acquire over 150 retail stores.
Driven by his deep respect for accounting, Gary opened his independent tax preparation practice in 2007. When the 2008 financial crisis struck, while many firms struggled, Gary successfully expanded by stepping up to defend distressed taxpayers, representing individuals and businesses before the IRS and state authorities on complex back-tax liabilities. Balancing full-time client representation with rigorous study, he earned his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential and IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) designation.
